The technology sector never stops innovating.
One of the latest and most interesting appearances in the business world is VolP telephony. How does it work and what exactly are these possibilities? Let’s get started.
What exactly is VolP?
VolP refers to a series of devices, standards and protocols that make it possible to transfer voice over IP protocol. Or, in other words, a technology that allows voice files to be transmitted over the Internet. The audio, faithfully picked up by a microphone, is transformed into digital data. This data is then sent over the network and, once on the recipient’s device, interpreted and transformed back into voice.
IP telephony in Spain is, therefore, a new way of telephone communication. It is not part of the traditional telephone system and its dense network of cables and antennas. It is now dependent on the same network coverage that allows you to view web pages in your browser or receive e-mails.
It operates through the use of LAN networks (wired and Wi-Fi) and mobile data networks. Through desktop and portable devices. And through the intervention of specific software (messaging applications) and hardwares (VolP phone devices).
What are the advantages?
This technology allows the use of a virtual PBX, which offers a series of considerable advantages:
- Lower cost: Traditionally, calls were divided into local, national and international calls. And each of them could apply a different tariff system. In the case of having to make a long international call, the cost could be more than considerable. However, you will have already noticed that communication through the Internet works in a different way. And there is no difference, economically speaking, between sending a message to your friend on the other side of the world, or to the one down the street.
- Greater accessibility: Wherever there is network coverage (and this is growing by leaps and bounds), the call will be possible.
- Clearer communication: In traditional telephony, coverage is sometimes limited and uncertain. This leads to a loss of audio quality. This is not the case with VoIP. The quality will always be that with which the sender sent it.
- A great help to companies: The virtual PBX (capable of operating even in the cloud) can operate from anywhere in the world and at any time. And the reception and management of a huge number of calls.
It therefore favors teleworking and productivity.
The VoIP phone
VoIP phones convert the audio of traditional analog telephony into digital data. And conversely, this digital data into audio.
The HardPhone or SIP phone looks almost identical to a traditional telephone. Except that it is connected to the Internet via cable or Wi-Fi network.
The so-called SoftPhone is not, in essence, a phone as such. It is a practical application installed on a computer, tablet or phone, which allows the use of the functions of this new technology. It usually adds a series of very useful extra functionalities.
VolP technology is here to stay
Thanks to the economic savings and the large number of advantages it offers, it will expand very rapidly over the next few years.
